The grinding process has been investigated in the machining of Inconel 718 with GC, WA and CBN grinding wheels. The machinability discussed here includes surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, grinding force, grinding-wheel wear and grinding-wheel life.
Chemical composition of Inconel 718 [ 2 ]. Grinding tests were carried out in a MELLO P36 peripheral surface grinder driven by a 2.2 kW motor with variable rotation up to 2400 rpm. Prior to each grinding trial, dressing was carried out using a fliese dresser with an effective width of (b d) of 0.65 mm and an overlap ratio (U d) of 4.

Grinding Improves Surface Finish in 3D Printed Inconel . The results of this study proved that finish grinding of additively manufactured, nickelbased superalloys, such as Inconel 718, can be successfully employed to achieve a reduction in surface roughness of approximately 94 percent when measured parallel to the grind lines and approximately 34 percent when measured …
The results provide fundamental knowledge of the grinding material removal process, which helps to improve grinding performance and quality. Cubic boron nitride grits of 40/50 mesh size were used to perform scratch tests on the alloy Inconel 718.
grinding hard-to-cut materials. In order to study the effect of improving the grinding speed on grinding effect, the ultra-high speed grinding experiments of Inconel 718 were carried out with CFRP grinding wheel under the maximum speed of 260 m/s. By increasing the grinding speed and the feedrate, the material removal rate per unit
Abstract The correct selection of cutting parameters is crucial to provide tribological conditions that contribute to meet the required workpiece surface topography characteristics, especially considering abrasive processes such as grinding. The present work sought to evaluate the influence of several cutting parameters on surface topography of Inconel 718 after grinding.

Study on the grinding of Inconel 718 ScienceDirect. 01/12/1995· The CBN grinding wheel is found to possess particularly good grinding properties and is most suitable for grinding Inconel 718 when compared with WA and GC grinding wheels, but it has high cost.
The present work sought to evaluate the influence of several cutting parameters on surface topography of Inconel 718 after grinding. Surface finish and morphology were used to assess topography of workpiece. Cutting forces and coefficient of friction were also analyzed.
Surface roughness (Ra, Rz, Rsk and Rku parameters), images via scanning electron microscope (SEM), cutting power and grinding force ratio were the output parameters analyzed. The results for Inconel 718 showed that presence of the MLG promoted reduction in Ra and Rz, a better surface morphology and negligible effect on the other output parameters.
The study by De Oliveira et al. [ 26] carried out an experimental investigation in the grinding of Inconel 718 using the conventional green silicon carbide grinding wheel (designation of 39C60KVK) under various cooling–lubrication conditions: dry, flood, MQL and MQL with multilayer graphene platelets dispersed in an eco-friendly cutting fluid.

The results provide fundamental knowledge of the grinding material removal process, which helps to improve grinding performance and quality. Cubic boron nitride grits of 40/50 mesh size were used to perform scratch tests on the alloy Inconel 718.
In this study, the effects of cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut on surface roughness and tangential cutting force when high speed turning Inconel 718 …
For the grinding of IN718, the grinding force ratio decreased for higher values of depth of cut, whilst the use of MLG dispersed in cutting fluid did not influenced it. When grinding the IN625 with MLG, on the other hand, generated lower values of grinding force ratio.
